Blessed to Fulfill Purpose
In part two of this series, The Wisdom of Solomon, the cardinal point was that King Solomon’s wise choice created a platform for God to bless him with an uncommon wisdom, and an understanding heart. 1 Kings 3:12 “Behold, I have done according to thy words: I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.” In addition to these blessings, God Almighty added riches, honour and length of days to King Solomon’s requests.
At some point while I was conducting further research on the rationale behind the request Solomon made from God, it then became so clear and vivid to me that he actually made the request, not for himself, but to enable him govern the Israelites, people of God in very perfect way. Considering the way man is made, we are naturally preoccupied with the attitude of ‘me and myself’, but King Solomon did not allow himself to be carried away by the selfish nature of man. Hence, he considered his position and his limitations as a young man who requires wisdom and an understanding heart to lead the people of Israel on the right path. 1 Kings 3:8-9 “And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou has chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great is a people”
God found this very uncommon in man and, in return, delivered into Solomon’s hands the uncommon gifts of wisdom and an understanding heart, that actually made him the wisest man that has ever lived on the planet earth. 1 Kings 4:30 “And Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt.”
In the midst of the complex world today, you need to recognise the high tendency to disillusioned and distracted by the advent of technologies, latest developments and even professional management of the spiritual things, forgeting the existence of a God who has infinite abilities and capacity to cause changes in all areas of life. Whether you like it or not, you live in a world that is controlled by the supernatural, and unless you have a grip of this revelation and discovery, you are standing on a shadowed mat, which mean you could be vulnerable to uncertainties and occurrences, which could be very unpredictable. Solomon depended on God for such an outstanding gift, not for his own benefit, but to enable him govern the lives God entrusted into him hands, and he was blessed in an incredible manner, becoming a legend that can never be forgotten.
Despite King Solomon’s knowledge, power and position, he humbled himself before God and got the reward in the long run. Before he was enthroned as king by David his father, it was announced that Solomon was the next king and that he was going to build the house of God. 1 Kings 2:1-3 “Now the days of David drew nigh that he should die; and he charged Solomon his son, saying, I go the way of all the earth: be thou strong therefore, and shew thyself a man; And keep the charge of the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself.” At that stage, I felt the power had already been conferred on Solomon as King and the after-effects of position, pride, was to be the attitude, even at very tender age. But the situation was the contrary, as King Solomon reduced himself to nothing before God, and in return, he was blessed beyond his expectations.
