Watch Your Mouth!

Watch your words and hold your tongue, you’ll save yourself a lot of grief

(Proverbs 21:23).

In continuation of the first series of the story of the young prophet and the old prophet in the 1Kings 13, despite the warning given to the young prophet by God, he could not resist everything offered to him by the old prophet, he did not deem it fit to go back to God and ask if He had really asked the old prophet to come and take him home. It was not recorded that the old prophet forced him.  The proper thing he could have done was to press the control button, stood his ground on the instructions given to him by God. He could have resisted the old prophet, but he did not, probably because he has lost the control to connect to God.

Danger of Losing Control of Your Tongue

It is of a great importance to watch your mouth and be mindful of what you say and do. Always pause and tell yourself: what I am about to say, do I need to say it? What do I stand to lose or gain if I say or don’t say it? Will it edify others or destroy them?

The young obedient prophet who had power and control over his life suddenly lost it due to his inability to watch his mouth, and lack of self-discipline. He was killed by a lion just by the road side where everyone could see and mock him and was buried even in his enemy’s grave. It is crucial to realise the truth behind having a grip on the purpose of God in the life of a man. Getting into the purpose of God determines your level of self-control and this puts you right at the centre of God’s plan, which precedes the fulfilment of your destiny by grace.

“A good person produces good deeds and words season after season. An evil person is a blight on the orchard. Let me tell you something: Every one of these careless words is going to come back to haunt you. There will be a time of Reckoning. Words are powerful; take them seriously. Words can be your salvation. Words can also be your damnation.” .

Matthew 12:36

If you don’t have any strong conviction that there is necessity for what you want to say, then PRESS THE CONTROL BUTTON – KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT, it’s not worth saying!

I have seen it on TV and watched it in movies what policemen say to suspects. They say “it is better not to say anything, because anything you say will be used against you in the court of law”. They are simply telling the suspect “watch your mouth”.

Same is every word you speak here on earth will be accounted for on the last day. So “WATCH YOUR MOUTH”
