How to Sense God’s Voice

The Spirit and the mind work hand-in-hand. Direction in your walk comes by rhema through your Spirit

God is not calling us to use the mind or the Spirit, but the mind AND the Spirit. Biblical meditation combines the analysis of the mind with the spontaneity of the heart. Jesus joined rationalism and spirituality in a perfect balance in His own personal life. The scripture even admonishes us to have the mind of Christ-1 Corinthians 2:16.

Being a Christian does not mean throwing your mind away. Your mind is highly useful as you approach God; the proper place of the mind is its specification. It is the organ that processes revelation; it is not the organ through which revelation is received. The Spirit is. The Spirit and the mind work hand-in-hand. Direction in your walk comes by rhema through your Spirit

Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water…

The Relevance of The Mind

Your mind continually acts as a check and safeguard, comparing all rhema to logos. Revelation itself is not irrational but rather super-rational. Let me put it in a clearer form by this hypothetical instance.

One day I was ministering in the Church and I suddenly, towards proving a point, asked the congregation a question with a promise that whoever got the answer would collect a prize gift of N500.00 from me. It was my 25 years old biological son that got the answer. He then stood up to claim the promised reward but I really do not have the intention of giving him; after all he is my son. The Following day, I was in the bathe and then I heard a voice in my heart that instructed me to go and give the boy the money I promised. The voice further confirmed that within me I didn’t want to give him on account of the fact that he is my son.

The voice then told me that if my father in heaven refused to give me all He had promised me on the excuse that I am His son, how will I feel? Immediately I left the bathroom, freshened up and returned to my Church office. I called the boy and I inquired if I promised him N500.00 yesterday during the service and he answered the affirmative. Immediately, I handed him the money. You should have seen how the boy jumped up and couldn’t
hide his joy and happiness.

There and then, I began to imagine in my mind how it would look like if God redeemed His promises to me. The joyous flow that I would have. Revelation is not irrational; it is the way spirituality operates…For instance, for Abraham and Sarah to believe they were going to have a baby even at the age of 90 years looks irrational to our physical laws. Paul was admonishing the Hebrews; Chapter 10:22-23;

“Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised)”
