God’s Plan for King Saul – The Masterpiece (Part 1)

Contrary to the general opinion, the original plan of God for Saul the king, was to deliver the Israelites from the shackles of captivity which the Philistines have put them and to actually reign over the Israelites. A lot of Christians are of the opinion that God actually chose Saul to reign over the Israelites in order to punish them for requesting for a king. Though, the Israelites did request a king from Samuel (who was a Judge over them at that time) to rule over them, just like every other people around them. But God’s original plan for Saul was to deliver the Israelites and at the same time, reign over them. According to the book of 1 Samuel 9:15-17, “15 Now the Lord had told Samuel in his ear a day before Saul came, saying, 16 To morrow about this time I will send thee a man out of the land of Benjamin, and thou shalt anoint him to be captain over my people Israel, that he may save my people out of the hand of the Philistines: for I have looked upon my people, because their cry is come unto me. 17 And when Samuel saw Saul, the Lord said unto him, Behold the man whom I spake to thee of! this same shall reign over my people”.

Saul was actually chosen by God as an instrument to be used and made a king to reign and rule God’s people, Israel. It did not matter what anybody thought or felt about this choice, not even Prophet Samuel who God instructed to ordain him a king over the Israelites. Immediately Saul showed up, God said here he comes the chosen, and God did not seek the opinion of anybody before He chose Saul, not even Samuel, for He does not need anybody’s recommendation to appoint or choose any vessel to be used for His glory.

God acts according to His supernatural ability to choose and not based on any human assessment of individual character, pedigree, affluence / influence, level of education, professional prowess or spiritual maturity. Even when Saul thought he was not qualified, God did not change His mind. 1 Samuel 9:21 And Saul answered and said, Am not I a Benjamite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel? and my family the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? wherefore then speakest thou so to me?”. God’s plan and choice supersede the yardsticks and benchmark of men, and therefore Saul, an ordinary Benjamite, a tribe with no influence and the smallest of all the tribes was picked to reign over the whole Israel.

It is therefore a great revelation that you are not a mistake or an error wherever you have found yourself. It does not matter the happenings around you at the moment, your position has been ordained by God Almighty and your life has been predestined with a special security lock, and God holding the key in His hands. All you need do is find your way back to Him – the Master Planner who is ever ready to fix complicated situations.
