Finding Safety in Storm

In a hurricane at sea, there may well be waves around twice the height of a double decker bus! Category 5. hurricanes can produce waves 25ft in height which can sweep miles into coastal areas. By contrast, in the terrible 2004 tsunami, waves were recorded of 100ft in height. The mega-tsunami of Lituya Bay cleared trees to a reported height of 1,719 ft.

Jesus said “As it was in the days of Noah” and we should not imagine the Ark floating gracefully upwards in calm tranquillity. Water was thundering down on the roof, and surging around them. All was chaos. They were in a dark place of howling winds, maelstroms and threatening waves. However “The Lord shut them in” and by faith Noah became an heir of righteousness.

We were meditating on Genesis 7:17

“As the waters increased they lifted the Ark high above the earth”. And we felt the Lord was saying: Do not fear the future, but continue to find refuge in the living God. The new covenant is like that Ark of salvation. Those who come within its security are lifted high above all the judgements that come upon the earth. I am the lifter of your heads, the one who brings encouragement and hope even when things seem dark and bewildering.

While storms raged outside those inside were protected and went about their lives, and as they remained in the Ark they were lifted up. The more the rain came down, the higher they rose and amid the storms they could be at peace. So I will lift you nearer to Me, and I will watch over you to keep you safe. For those who believe in Me shall not perish, but rather they shall have eternal life.

When troubles come don’t fret for they lift you up to be nearer heaven itself. So live lightly to the things of earth, always looking to that which is to come. So come close to Me, closer still for this is where I would have you to be – near to Me so that My arms around you, sustaining you and lifting you up above all that troubles you. Just keep your eyes on Me, on that which is to come and will surely come about.
