In today’s reading, I will focus on a scripture that is not usually taken out of context, but will emphasize the need to do what may be impossible.
Philippians 4.6-7
Blessing
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
From this scripture, we know without a doubt that the blessing is the peace of God which passeth all understanding and this promise can help us through the most difficult pains in our lives. However, we cannot forget the difficult part, which is to go in prayer and Thanksgiving without worrying about things we cannot control.
Psalm 51:17 King James Version (KJV)
“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.”
There is a song that I tend to play when I’m particularly in grief or in tremendous sadness. I really appreciate how this song emphasizes the need to praise God despite whatever circumstances we are going through.
The message is this: No matter what you’re going through, praise God and his peace will be given unto you through the Holy Spirit (John 14: 26-28).But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid).
This is what Philippians 4.6 affirms that we should adopt an attitude of leaning on God rather than the flesh which brings many worries. Once we are saved, we are given the gift of the Holy Spirit as you would have read in the previous series and in the holy spirit, we have righteousness, peace and joy, for that’s the kingdom of God.
May we learn to live in this Kingdom?
