Ruminating over King David’s life, I have noticed that from outset, worshipping God has been a way of life to him. He mentioned in Psalm 13:5-6 “But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation. I will sing unto the Lord, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.” God referred to him as a man after His own heart because of his style of worship. David believed that the mercy of God is capable of taking him far in his day-to-day activities, even when trouble comes; His mercy has the capacity to sustain him. Therefore rejoicing in the Lord becomes a thing he would not have to struggle with, even during the bad times.
The way and manner King David worshipped and danced unto the Lord called an unimaginable attention to him from Michal, his wife, when the Ark of Covenant was being taken to the City of David. After the Ark has spent three months at the house of Obed Edom, Kind David decided to complete the offerings that were meant to be done unto the Lord, so the Ark could be brought back to them. 2 Samuel 6:18,20 “And as soon as David had made an end of offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of hosts. Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel to day, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself!” It did not matter to David what the royal attire he was putting on when he danced before the Lord, celebrating His faithfulness.
I personally see this as a great dimension to walking with God. The Almighty God appreciates a form of worship from your heart and it is an act that pleases the Lord. Material submissions, charity and gifts are good, but they cannot replace a true worship unto the Lord. A form of worship that recognises the next person sitting beside you or the consciousness that someone is watching you has a deficiency of not 100 per cent focused and attention unto God.
David reaches for the heart of God with his heart-to-heart worship unto God. 2 Samuel 6:20-22 “And David said unto Michal, It was before the Lord, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel: therefore will I play before the Lord. And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be had in honour.”
David acknowledges that it was God that enthroned him and he would forever worship Him, regardless of what anybody thought of his royal style or class. This is a very spectacular perspective to having a great relationship with God. Regardless of your class, status, position, profession, social status and level of spiritual maturity, or what your circumstances are, especially as you made it into this new month, David’s style of worship is an outstanding model, which could be adopted in order to warmly get into the heart of God.
Happy New Month!
