Designed for a Purpose

We were created for a purpose, to know God and to make Him known. If you are struggling to know your purpose, start by praying about it. Follow your passion, it may not be clear now, but God will start making it clear as you draw near Him and His timing for that purpose draws near.

I used to wonder what I was created to do. Now when I look back, I see that I have always been involved in prayer most of my Christian life. God is preparing you for your moment and assignment. The closer you walk with Him the clearer it becomes. He will give you more to do as He trusts you more. I have four points to help you find your purpose in life.

Know that we have Work to do!

As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world. (John 9:4-5)

Jesus knew He was on earth for a short while and so He used his time wisely. When you are out of the world you cannot impact it, it is too late. Jesus knew that He had to teach His disciples the way of the Kingdom, so they would continue with the work. This is the same work we are now continuing to do. God has you and me to do His work, there is no one else to do it. We are still free to share the gospel with others in this nation and so let us make the most of every opportunity we have. Street evangelism can still be done, and we can still use social media. We do not know when this door will close.

This is why the Psalmist said, remind me that my days are numbered— how fleeting my life is (Psalm 39:4).

It Starts Small

Your beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will your future be (Job 8:7)

Go through the process, it will make you stronger. He is building you up and developing you. Jesus came into the world as a baby, born of a virgin to fulfill His purpose. He had to grow into it, He came to die and to teach us about the Father. It also says in the book of Job where we just read, So the LORD blessed Job’s latter days more than his first.

But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day (Proverbs 4:18)

That is the way of God, do not despise the day of small beginnings. It only takes a flame to start a big fire. He is doing something big in your life. More than you can even think of or imagine, even though it looks like humble beginnings.

Start Now

Sow your seed in the morning and do not be idle in the evening, for you do not know whether one or the other will succeed, or whether both of them alike will be good (Ecclesiastes 11:6)

Whatever you find to do with your hands, do it with all your might. We have work to do, now is the time to do it. Now is the time to arise. Let us run with the vision we were created to do.

We were created to do good works, God had in mind before we were born. We cannot afford to be idle when it comes to our calling. I have dreamed of the things I am doing now when I was a newly born-again Christian, and I can see now that I was not ready at all. It did not mean I was not serving the Lord; I was, but at a small capacity. I attended a small church in Westhoughton and used to preach and lead services, helping the leadership there. God moved me to a bigger church after some time where I did not preach. Then I was part of the intercessory prayer team; it was in a season of hiding and pruning.

Be part of a Church

God was doing a work in my personal life. I was in a marriage that was struggling, and I was trying to hold on to it knowing that was not God’s best for me. One thing I have always respected is being part of a church, this is God’s will for us. In a church, you partner with a vision, you learn the word, and develop your spiritual life.  Attending church has always been of great importance and I understood this from the beginning. Your gifts are developed in the house of God. This will help you find your purpose as you are connected to other Christians or like-minded people.

  1. Thanks Jane for this excellent write up. Just today I was thinking about the fact that so many people lack a good understanding of purpose. It is possible to live an entire lifetime without achieving God’s plan for their lives. This is a timely word.
