Press the Control Button

“People who are careful about what they say will save their lives, but those who speak without thinking will be destroyed.”

Proverbs 13:3.

Tongue as we all know is a very small part of the body, though, it is hidden inside the mouth, it does control the whole body. Due to its size, it always gives the body a constant reminder of its existence by talking and talking, and if care is not taken, it can put the whole body in trouble. It is now up to you to consent to its lead. Words are like an egg, once it falls, it breaks and cannot be put back together again. With our tongue, we can call those things that were not as if they were and with the tongue a whole city can be brought to her ruin.

The Prophet with the message

This reminds me of the story of the young prophet in the bible in 1 Kings 13 – The Lord asked the young prophet to go and deliver a message unto King Jeroboam of what will happen in his kingdom. With an instructions that the young prophet should not eat or drink, nor even go back to his country through the same route he went to Jeroboam. God gave all these warnings to him in secret. Unfortunately for him, these same instructions were catalysts to his destruction, all because he could not tame his tongue and put it under subjection. The instructions was given to him for his safety and protection, but the moment he blabbed, the edge of protection was taken off him.

11 Now there was a certain old prophet living in Bethel, whose sons came and told him all that the man of God had done there that day. They also told their father what he had said to the king…15 So the prophet said to him, “Come home with me and eat.” 16 The man of God said, “I cannot turn back and go with you, nor can I eat bread or drink water with you in this place. 17 I have been told by the word of the Lord: ‘You must not eat bread or drink water there or return by the way you came.’”

(1 Kings 13:11,15-16)

You need Self-Control

One would think that the man was a prophet… he should be more sensitive. 1 Peter 5 verse 8 “Control yourselves and be careful! The devil is your enemy, and he goes around like a roaring lion looking for someone to attack and eat.” He refused to press the control button of his mouth, as he told the king every instructions God gave him in secret and exposed it to the whole world. People who were not there when God had that conversation with him eventually knew everything God told him in secret. Why did he then feel the whole world needed to hear what God told him? No one knows because he did not live to tell the story.

For you to attain your divine goals in life, God requires that you live a life of self-control and discipline in every areas of life. As you desire to do this, I believe your best days are still ahead.

If you are not careful what you say to people, the same thing you say will either make or end you. The moment the young prophet went against the instructions the Lord gave him, the Lord’s presence departed from him. He did not only loose the presence of the Lord, the Lord now spoke to him through the enemy of his soul of what was going to happen to him He lost control of his life and was being told what would happen to him by the old prophet who the Lord had rejected long before him.

For you to attain your divine goals in life, God requires that you live a life of self-control and discipline in every areas of life. As you desire to do this, I believe your best days are still ahead.

“While they were sitting at the table, the word of the Lord came to the old prophet who had brought him back. He cried out to the man of God who had come from Judah, “This is what the Lord says: ‘You have defied the word of the Lord and have not kept the command the Lord your God gave you. You came back and ate bread and drank water in the place where he told you not to eat or drink. Therefore your body will not be buried in the tomb of your ancestors.”
