The outcomes of our decisions are inevitable once they are made. Our decisions then become precedence to what happens to us after, either positive or negative.
For every decision we make, there is an outcome, sometimes the result might be positive or negative. As recorded in Genesis 27:34-37, Esau made a very crucial decision without taking into consideration the outcome of the decision. This is the case of many of us today. We make decisions without counting the cost. And the fundamental truth behind making decisions is that for every decision we make in life, there is a cost to pay. It is therefore very crucial to always evaluate our situation and what the aftermath of the decision could be before moving on.
Here are some of the areas where we must think deeply before making decisions:
- Choosing a life partner.
- Choosing a course to study at college or university.
- Choosing a career path.
- Choosing to have children
- Choosing the financial responsibility that we want to commit ourselves to.
- Choosing the kind of friends we keep
- Choosing the kind of movies we watch
- Choosing the kind of food we eat
- Choosing the kind of drinks we take.
- Choosing the kind of music we listen to.
Esau gave away his birthright because it meant nothing to him. Imagine choosing a pot of porridge over his blessings. He did not take into account the outcome of that decision at that time because of desperation and lack of self-control. When we make decisions without checking what the outcome could be, we might end up regretting like Esau.
The outcomes of our decisions are inevitable once they are made. Our decisions then become precedence to what happens to us after, either positive or negative. The point is that well-thought decisions usually brings positive outcome and the decision that is made out of desperation, not given to critical evaluation before moving on, leads to regret and the negative aftermath. Whatever the outcome is, they might end up living with us for the rest of our lives. For this reason, we need to really ponder over the decision before they are finally made.
The Adamic Erroneous Decision
God “told Adam the day you eat from the fruit you shall surely die” God actually gave a full description of the consequences of his action if he decides to eat the fruit, which is death. A lot of people do not take into consideration the consequences before making a decision; rather they make decisions before thinking about the consequences. That is putting the cart before the horse.
Our creator doesn’t want us to live a life of regret, he wants us to be wise children that think deeply before we act, because the consequences might be destructive, and even affect our families, into the fourth generation. That is how unavoidable consequences could be.
Esau cried bitterly but it was too late for him because what he thought was a joke actually became his pain for life. You might have made some bad decisions in the past which might have caused you so much pain, but be assured that God, our creator is always faithful and merciful to give us another chance to change and come back to His purpose for our lives, and what looks like a complete mess, the creator of the universe can turn it to a complete message from which we could learn from.
Now is not too late
The beauty about our lives is that we can turn things around for good, but we must always think about the outcomes first before making decisions. You should never allow people or circumstances to pressurise you into making decisions without thinking of the outcome. It is never too late for you, as long as you have breath; you can still come out of that negative situation, the consequences of your past decisions, in which you have found yourself. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:28-29).
